Opening dates for Standing at the Sky's Edge at Gillian Lynne Theatre London announced!

A moving story of the power of community, the critically acclaimed musical Standing at the Sky's Edge is set to open at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in February 2024. The initial booking period is from 8th February to 3rd August 2024. 

The production

The Olivier-winning production was initially conceived as a love letter to the city of Sheffield. It won the hearts of audiences and critics alike for its profound investigation into love, loss, and survival over six decades. The musical explores the lives of three generations against the backdrop of Park Hill Estate. A story of hope, loss and survival, it unveils the evolution of Britain through the lives of its characters. 

Its 2019 premiere at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield 2019 was followed by rave reviews and sold-out performances. Standing at the Sky's Edge subsequently won the Olivier Award for Best New Musical and the UK Theatre Award for Best Musical Production. It also won the 2020 South Bank Sky Arts Award for Theatre, securing its success.

The team

The musical is directed by Robert Hastie (Artistic Director, Sheffield's Theatres). Chris Bush wrote the heartfelt script, and Sheffield's singer-songwriter, Richard Hawley, created the music. 

With a creative team that includes choreographer Lynne Page, set and costume designer Ben Stones, lighting designer Mark Henderson, music supervisor, arranger, and orchestrator Tom Deering, sound designer Bobby Aitken, and wigs, hair & make-up designer Cynthia De La Rosa, the West End transfer promises to be a breathtaking experience.
