Set on a sunny Greek island, MAMMA MIA! charts the story of Sophie Sheridan, who dreams of being walked down the aisle by her father, but she has no idea which of her mother Donna’s three former lovers is the dad. To find out, she invites all three to her wedding, setting off romantic and comedic twists in motion. This West End production, directed by Phyllida Lloyd with music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, retains the musical’s signature fusion of pop, emotion and humour. The London cast includes Izi Maxwell (Sophie), Mazz Murray (Donna), Christopher Dickins, Stephen Beckett, and others. The show uses bold costumes, dynamic staging, and crowd-pleasing choreography to bring familiar ABBA songs like “Dancing Queen,” “Mamma Mia!” and “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” to vibrant life. Critics have praised its “fun and campness” (London Theatre) and its ability to get audiences dancing by the show’s end.
On a bright, romantic Greek isle, Sophie Sheridan’s dream of walking down the aisle is shadowed by uncertainty: who is her father? Her mother, Donna, once kept private diaries, hiding three names: Harry, Bill, and Sam. In a twist of hopeful audacity, Sophie invites all three men to her wedding, hoping one will claim the role. What follows is a warm, humorous exploration of identity, love and family under the Mediterranean sun. As old secrets surface and relationships shift, the question of the father remains, and how it will change everything. My husband, daughter, and I had a wonderful time seeing Mamma Mia! in London. From the moment the curtain rose, the energy in the theater was incredible. The cast delivered outstanding performances, bringing humor, emotion, and enthusiasm to every scene. The music was fantastic, and hearing so many beloved songs performed live made the experience even more special. My daughter was completely captivated, and it was wonderful to share such a memorable evening together as a family. The choreography, costumes, and vibrant atmosphere kept us entertained from start to finish. We found ourselves singing along and smiling throughout the show. It was a joyful, uplifting experience that left us all in great spirits. We would highly recommend it to anyone visiting London and looking for a memorable night out.
The show is incredibly generous, and that’s thanks to the generosity of the cast and the musicians. Given the impressive number of performances they’ve given, one might expect a sort of routine, a “tourist trap”: “We’ve done our job!” Well, not at all! The show is absolutely polished in its execution, yes... but the passion of the artists (all the artists) shines through in every scene, in every line, in every song performance. The joy of performing is real, visceral—you can see it, you can feel it! What a joy, truly! Thank you isn’t even enough… but thank you!

The whole experience was fantastic from start to finish. I am 79 and severly sighted, the other 3 are in their 80s, with various levels of Disability. On arrival the staff were very helpful and accomodating[ I do wish there had beed a lift though !!] The Show it's self, was absolutly out of this world, and took me back to 1974. All I can say is. Thank for the Music, I took a chance on you Mama Mia, and you took me to my WATERLOO. [T'S A PITY MY NAME IS NOT FERNANDO.]
How could anyone not be dazzled by such a lively, beautifully performed, and danced show! We, too, find ourselves on that little Greek island alongside Sophie and Donna! ABBA’s songs haven’t aged a bit over the years. We go from bursts of laughter to moments of tenderness, affection, and even sorrow—all of which make this musical a true gem. It makes you want to come back and see it again to recharge with positive... and contagious energy.
