On 13 July 1985, Live Aid brought together 70 of the most popular musicians of the era for a 16-hour concert that united around 1.9 billion viewers across the globe and raised $127 million for famine relief in Africa. This “rip-roaring, rousing rally cry of a musical” (The Telegraph) reimagines that momentous day with heart and authenticity, directed by Luke Sheppard and starring Julie Atherton (Mamma Mia) and Craige Els (Doctor Who). Continuing Live Aid’s 40-year legacy, 10% of all ticket sales go directly to The Band Aid Charitable Trust, with a mission to raise £2,000,000 by the end of 2025, ensuring that the spirit of great music for a great cause lives on.
On that iconic day in July 1985, a bunch of popular musicians proved that music can transcend all barriers, bringing people from all over the world together, in an environment of political unrest. The brainchild of musicians Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, the global jukebox was held at Wembley Stadium in London and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia. Two satellites united 1.9 billion viewers as 70 of the best musicians of those times performed without compensation, thus raising $127 million for famine relief in Africa. A superb show, well worth seeing if you remember the original Live Aid and where you were at the time watching it and loving it all. Go see it.
From the moment they said it's 12 o'clock in London etc I had goosebumps. I experienced tears and laughter. The story was told so clearly and accurately the music was incredible and magical and brought me back to my teenage years. and The cast performed this so well and the energy they had was just out of this world. Just wow! One of my absolute favourites now. Bob Geldof being in the audience just made it even more special and the money raised. Incredible. Awesome night!
What a fabulous show and it took us back in time. However, what we witnessed in Ethiopia, at the time, a humanitarian crisis Bob and so many others challenged and fought, we surely did not expect it to be even more worldwide as us today. In the words of Michael Jackson, why can't we live together in peace.
Incredible talent right across that stage! It reminds us of a time where people did come together with a common goal. Young, passionate and energetic. I came with two friends and all three of us were blown away.
The show was amazing. Fabulous vocals great music. Want to watch it again, hope it tours. Great story which is part of my history
