Why Watch Wendy & Peter Pan?

  • The Royal Shakespeare Company’s acclaimed production returns with Ella Hickson’s bold and witty re-imagining of JM Barrie's Peter Pan.
  • Directed by Jonathan Munby (King Lear, Frozen) and starring RSC Associate Artist Toby Stephens (Die Another Day, Black Sails) as Captain Hook, the show combines top-tier talent.
  • Designer Colin Richmond (The Mirror and the Light) transforms the Barbican stage with flying sequences, sword fights, and atmospheric lighting by Oliver Fenwick (Patriots, The Lehman Trilogy).
  • Hickson’s adaptation explores what it truly means to grow up, lacing Barrie’s whimsy with darker humor and emotional depth that resonates with both children and adults.
  • A limited-season spectacle at the Barbican Theatre, this RSC favourite is a "lavish family entertainment" (Evening Standard). Book your Wendy & Peter Pan London tickets now!

Wendy & Peter Pan reimagines JM Barrie’s beloved tale through the eyes of Wendy Darling in a vibrant Royal Shakespeare Company production. Written by Ella Hickson (The Writer), the play balances high-flying adventure with a moving exploration of childhood, memory, and the courage to let go. Jonathan Munby’s (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, King Lear) direction lends the story cinematic sweep, while Colin Richmond’s (The Mirror and the Light) set design conjures Neverland’s magic in every scene.

Featuring Toby Stephens (Die Another Day, The Remains of the Day) as Captain Hook and Hannah Saxby as Wendy, the production brims with dazzling movement by choreographer Lucy Hind (The Last Ship) and an evocative score by Shuhei Kamimura. With flying, sword fighting, and “more than a sprinkling of fairy dust,” this RSC staging transforms the Barbican Theatre into a dreamscape that celebrates imagination, courage, and the enduring power of a happy thought.

Storyline

Wendy Darling’s quiet London life is upended when Peter Pan flies through her nursery window and invites her to Neverland, a realm of lost boys, mermaids, fairies, and pirates. As Wendy journeys beyond childhood’s comfort, she discovers the courage to confront loss and rediscover joy. With Peter, Tink, and Tiger Lily by her side, she faces the fearsome Captain Hook in a battle between freedom and growing up.
