American playwright, screenwriter, film director and actor, Neil LaBute is the author of The Shape of Things. LaBute is known for his works like, In The Company Of Men, The Shape of Things — starring Paul Rudd and Rachel Weisz, and The Mercy Seat. He was one of the recipients of the 2013 Arts and Letters Awards in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. The play is produced by Trish Wadley and directed by Nicky Allpress — Romeo & Juliet at Southwark Playhouse, Crackers at Polka Theatre. Pete Butler — Shut Up, I'm Dreaming designed the set and costumes. Luke Newton from the famous show Bridgerton plays Adam and Amber Anderson from Peaky Blinders plays Evelyn.

Storyline

The play is set on a college campus in small-town America. The story follows Adam, a geeky college student who gets pulled into a chaotic affair with Evelyn, a fellow student majoring in art. Adam starts to take better care of himself with Evelyn's counsel, and he rapidly acquires a sense of confidence. Everything appears to be going smoothly until his closest friends' engagement starts to fall apart, which sets off a drama that reveals the inner workings of two contemporary couples. Park Theatre is the vision of Artistic Director Jez Bond and Creative Director Melli Marie who managed to raise sufficient funding to transform the concrete building into a thriving new theatre venue, gathering support from the theatre community including stalwarts like Ian McKellen and Alan Rickman, the media, and, most importantly, residents in the area. The structure, constructed by David Hughes Architects for £2.6 million, opened in May 2013 to excellent acclaim from reviewers. It is located near Finsbury Park station, not far from the West End.
