Fondly known as The People’s Palace or Ally Pally, the Alexandra Palace opened in 1873 but was soon destroyed due to a fire outbreak. It was restored and opened again in 1875 as an entertainment venue that included a theatre, a library, a swimming pool and more. The Alexandra Palace Theatre ran for many years, putting on famous pantomimes, operas, dramas and ballets before closing to the public for 80 years, during which time it underwent significant development. Today, the Alexandra Palace includes a theatre, a park, a lake, an ice rink, and a palm court within one venue.
