Revivals are hard enough to do without the looming legacy of powerhouses like Carol Channing and Barbra Streisand to live up to, but the revival of Hello, Dolly! has proven its mettle with a stellar cast and crew. The combination of brilliant direction, a nuanced script, excellent production, and the emotional yet blissfully comedic performance of Imelda Staunton, one of Britain’s most celebrated actors, proves to be the winning cocktail that makes this production one of the best of the season.
