Storyline
The setting of the play is a statement of the rich lifestyle led by the four-time widow, terminally ill, Mrs. Flora Goforth. Throughout the play, Flora tries to complete a memoir of her life with mortality closing in on her. She bullies her assistant and calls a visitor the ‘witch of Capri’. Then enters the handsome young itinerant poet, Chris Flanders, who is mocked as the Angel of Death. Trying and failing to successfully seduce Chris till the very end, Flora denies believing that he is virtuous and only intends to soothe her in passing to another world.
