Martin Sherman’s Rose is a blistering yet beautiful account of an 80-year-old woman named Rose, a Holocaust survivor. The opening production was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best New Play when it premiered in 1999. The current production is making its stage debut at Ambassadors Theatre, following a highly successful online run. The play has also previously been staged at the Royal National Theatre in London. Sherman, the playwright, has written some prolific work beyond Rose based on his Jewish heritage. His play Bent, based on gay people in the Holocaust, premiered in 1979 and was nominated for a Tony Award in 1980.

Storyline

Rose takes the audience through her roller coaster of a life that has its beginnings in a small Russian village. Over the course of the play, Rose details her life in Poland where she encounters the ghettos of Warsaw. She eventually traverses America on a ship called The Exodus, where she makes her way from Atlantic City in New Jersey to Miami in Florida. Eventually, the play Rose proves itself to be a searing commentary of significant events that shaped the course of the 20th century, from the lens of a dynamic and powerful Jewish woman immigrant in the States. Grab your Rose London tickets to catch the live production at Ambassadors Theatre.
