Far Gone is a one-person play written by and performed by John Rwothomack that follows a young boy in Northern Uganda whose life is transformed when his village is attacked by the Lord’s Resistance Army. Told with humour, poetry and physical theatre, it explores how violence and conflict reshape identity, family and belonging while holding onto humanity. Originally co-produced with Sheffield Theatres, this internationally toured production makes its London debut at Brixton House, earning strong critical praise for its raw, compelling storytelling and Rwothomack’s commanding performance.

Storyline

Set in Northern Uganda, Far Gone follows Okumu from childhood innocence to forced involvement with the Lord’s Resistance Army after his village is attacked. Through direct address and physical storytelling, the performance reveals how conflict distorts identity, tests family bonds and challenges what it means to survive. Told entirely by one performer, the play immerses the audience in Okumu’s transformation and the echoes of violence that follow, leaving you contemplating how far one can go to reclaim humanity.
