Our Cosmic Dust is a deeply touching theatrical experience from acclaimed Japanese director Michinari Ozawa, who brings his poignant original work to UK audiences for the first time. Adapted into English by Susan Momoko Hingley, the show blends live performance with hand-drawn animation and video projection, designed by Eika Shimbo. Instead of relying solely on live actors for storytelling, the show incorporates finely crafted puppets, directed and designed by Mikayla Teodoro.

Awarded three Yomiuri Theatre Awards, including Outstanding Theatrical Production, Outstanding Director and Best Actress, the production has wowed audiences in Japan and now, it arrives at Park Theatre for a limited London run. The set co-designed by Ozawa himself and Ceci Calf moves and shifts like a constellation, constantly evolving to reflect Shotaro’s journey. It’s minimal, imaginative, and symbolic rather than literal. Paired with lighting that captures mood and magic, the visual world becomes an emotional compass for the stor

Storyline

When young Shotaro loses his father, he begins to believe he can find him again somewhere in the stars. Leaving home to search the galaxy, he journeys through constellations, memories, and cosmic landscapes, determined to reconnect. Meanwhile, his mother embarks on her own mission: to bring her son back from his grief-stricken quest. What unfolds is an emotionally resonant and at times whimsical story about what binds us  even when we feel lightyears apart.
