I had no idea what this was about but I was blowing away by the great acting, cleverly written script and the moral questions that the play puts forward. It's conclusion arrives a bit suddenly but overall a fun intriguing watch. As good as anything on the West End right now

Why watch Relics?

  • A sharp new dark comedy from Ben Ockrent, Relics explores grief, family tension, and long-hidden secrets with wit and bite.
  • Writer Ben Ockrent was Olivier-nominated for Honey, while director Michael Longhurst brings acclaimed productions like Constellations to his name.
  • Themes of memory, rivalry, and fractured love make this play both deeply relatable and emotionally charged for audiences of all ages.
  • This world premiere runs for just one month at London’s Lyric Hammersmith, making it a rare chance to catch the first staging of Ockrent’s latest work.

Relics is the latest work from playwright Ben Ockrent, whose earlier play Honey earned an Olivier nomination. Directed by Michael Longhurst, known for his Olivier-nominated revival of Constellations, the production seamlessly blends biting humor with an unflinching examination of family conflict.

Opening at the Lyric Hammersmith in June 2026 for a strictly limited run, Relics combines sharp dialogue with intimate staging to deliver an evening of theatre that feels both personal and universal.

Storyline

When four siblings gather in their childhood home after their mother’s death, the task of dividing possessions quickly spirals into conflict. Liv clings to the past, Rob struggles to keep the peace, Michelle refuses to stay silent, and Jonny thrives on discord. But when a family secret comes to light, their relationships and their futures are thrown into chaos. Relics, playing in London, takes you deep into the complexities of love, loyalty, and loss. Will these fractured ties hold, or will everything shatter?

The actors were so talented, the play funny, heartwarming with an unexpected plot twist, the slow motion scene in the second act was incredible, almost cinematic. We loved it from start to finish! Shame we couldn't take any pictures!
