A brand new take on William Shakespeare’s iconic Romeo and Juliet, & Juliet is a fabulous musical that will leave you awestruck. The legendary tragedy gets a new life in this quirky musical with modifications to a few critical plot points. & Juliet showcases some of the Swedish producer and songwriter Max Martin’s most revered work such as Everybody by the Backstreet Boys, Can’t Feel My Face by The Weeknd, and Love Me Like You Do by Ellie Goulding. Max Martin has also produced the show and is an 11-time ASCAP Songwriter of the Year Award winner. The spectacular musical has been directed by Luke Shepherd.
The beautiful coming together of popular current music and a classic tale with a twist is something truly remarkable. The immensely gifted Miriam-Teak Lee as Juliet leads the extremely talented cast. Teak-Lee is best known for her roles in the musicals On The Town at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre. She was also part of the original ensemble of Hamilton at London's Victoria Palace Theatre. The musical is written by playwright David West and thoughtfully explores the idea that Juliet’s end might just have been the beginning.
The story begins with Romeo and Juliet, two lovers on the verge of killing themselves because of their long family feud. Instead of the actual ending where both follow through, here, Juliet chooses not to take her life and instead runs away to Paris. Nurse and her best friends join Juliet with the hopes of finally being free from the politics of her family. With endless possibilities of romance and thanks to the absence of Juliet's dominating family, the group of girls embarks on a life-altering journey of self-discovery!
The legendary Swedish songwriter Max Martin's back catalog is featured in this fresh new musical. Pop numbers like ‘Baby One More Time’, ‘Love Me Like You Do’, ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ ‘Break Free’, and ‘Everybody’ are presented in a completely new and exciting way.
