A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong is the brainchild of Mischief Theatre, the Olivier Award-winning company that brought audiences The Play That Goes Wrong, Peter Pan Goes Wrong, and The Goes Wrong Show on BBC One. Founded in 2008 by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields, Mischief Theatre has become a global phenomenon, known for its signature blend of physical comedy, fast-paced farce, and theatrical mayhem. Mischief Theatre originally created the show as a one-hour television special for the BBC in 2017, starring Dame Diana Rigg and Sir Derek Jacobi in memorable cameo roles. The TV adaptation was such a hit that it was reworked for the stage, spreading outrageous holiday cheer from West End across the globe.
The Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society is back, and this time, they’re taking on Charles Dickens’ beloved holiday classic, A Christmas Carol. In theory, it should be a heartwarming, festive masterpiece. In reality? It’s a complete disaster. Ebenezer Scrooge forgets his lines, the Ghost of Christmas Present gets stuck in a trapdoor, and Tiny Tim mysteriously grows taller throughout the performance!
Despite their best efforts, the show must go on whether the cast is ready or not. With slapstick comedy, unexpected twists, and riotous physical gags, A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong turns this classic holiday tale into a side-splittingly funny Christmas catastrophe.
The show is recommended for audiences aged 8 years and above. Children under 15 years must be accompanied by an adult over 18 years of age.
The Apollo Theatre ocated on Shaftesbury Avenue in London's West End and grade II-listed, is named after the Greek god Apollo, who is revered as the embodiment of creativity and the master of the muses. Henry Lowenfeld, the theater's owner at the time, commissioned the work of architect Lewin Sharp. A portion of the roof collapsed in 2013, marking the tragic end to an event that began after the theater's 1901 opening. After a meticulous restoration, the Apollo Theatre returned to the public in 2014. Located next to the Lyric Theatre, another landmark West End institution, this theater has been beloved for Fawlty Towers, The Belle of Bohemia, and A Madhouse in Goa.
