The Story

Tunnels begins its tale in East Berlin, in 1968. The Cold War has picked up steam. The only obstacles standing between Paul and Freddie Metz and their goal of leaving East Berlin are a 20-meter "death strip," hundreds of landmines, and the East German secret police. Tunnels tells the story of their battle to tunnel through the Berlin Wall with live musical accompaniment. The play is inspired by the true escape stories of the men and women who managed it make it safely to the other side, risking their lives for freedom and family.
