Opening in 1705 as Queen’s Theatre, His Majesty's Theatre was designed by John Vanbrugh. It was here that the performances of Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito, Così fan tutte and Don Giovanni unfolded for the first time in the early 19th century. Interestingly, the name of the theater changed along with the monarch. For instance, in 1714, it came to be known as the King’s Theatre when George I came into power. From the grand operas of the 18th century to today’s spectacular productions, this iconic venue has long been home to world-class entertainment. Its lavish Edwardian architecture and opulent interiors provide the perfect backdrop for the magic of live theatre. Since 1986, it has been the hauntingly beautiful home of Phantom of the Opera, captivating audiences with its sweeping romance and soaring melodies.

In short, this opera lived up to its reputation. I had one of the last and cheapest seats, and as a result, I couldn't see up and down the stage, so I spent a good part of the opera bending over to see the plot. Not to mention that I couldn't find any subtitles, which is probably normal, but for a French speaker like me, it wasn't much help in understanding. At least it gives me a good reason to go back and see it again, this time in a better place!

A wonderful, thought-out theater performance down to the last detail. It is fortunate that it is still possible to visit the theater, as it should be, without experimental directors and similar modern individuals who turn a classic work into a contemporary farce. Thank you for doing it the way it should be - correctly. If all directors stage musicals in a classically correct manner, like with The Phantom of the Opera, I'm really looking forward to seeing more classical musicals when I fly to London again. No photos were allowed, so I will keep the memory of this beautiful performance only in my head and heart. PS: I cried again. Pietro
Two months ago, my daughter moved to London for her university studies. Before visiting her, I bought two tickets to this opera as a surprise. And it turned out to be so much more than just an opera. It was a beautiful story brought to life with stunning melodies and an extraordinary stage design — truly a work of art. We watched it with excitement and joy in a theatre where we were welcomed with the kindness that reflects the spirit of England.
I loved that I was able to get a great seat, for a great time, and this experience really enhanced my trip to London and was a buckle list item, now successfully checked. I have been a huge fan of the play and saw it was a teenager, but to be able to see it in London was divine. Theater was easy to get to, staff were lovely, and would recommend to anyone wanting to elevate their London experience with a timeless classic.
The show is magnificent, the sets, the voices, the costumes, everything is really splendid. On the other hand, I was disturbed by latecomers in the middle of the opening (my favorite moment when the chandelier rises). It's not right to let people in late in the middle of a performance, especially at the most captivating moment when the effects are huge and you're paying nearly 300€ for two tickets.

No, but it’s incredibly close: Phantom is the second-longest-running musical in West End history (after Les Misérables) and remains in fifth place among all theatrical works.
A true award magnet, Phantom has earned 4 Olivier Awards (London) and 7 Tony Awards (including Best Musical), plus a Grammy, among over 70 major international accolades.
Over 13,000 performances of the show have been staged in London as of its 35th anniversary. Each show uses 230 costumes, 281 candles, 250 kg of dry ice, and a chandelier with 6,000 beads weighing nearly one ton.
Q- Why is the chandelier crash so iconic?
Modelled on a real 1896 accident, the replica chandelier is 3 meters wide, weighs one ton, includes 6,000 beads, and its dramatic fall marks the end of Act I, an unforgettable West End moment.
Indeed, a major 2004 movie directed by Joel Schumacher starred Emmy Rossum, Gerard Butler, and Patrick Wilson, bringing the stage epic to the cinema.
