The main narrative begins when a man commits suicide in their town. This incident allows a supernatural being to gain access to their world and show its presence in unpleasant ways.
After the spirit tries to harm the boy, they try to bind the spirit. But, a mishap occurs. The friends, with the help of Hempstock women, try to bring order to their world. However, they end up paying a terrible price to accomplish it.
