The Mongol Khan, a drama with music, was recreated in April 2022 at the Mongolian State Academic Theatre of Drama after being written by eminent Mongolian author and poet Lkhagvasuren Bavuu in 1998. Based on actual events, the production traces the development of Mongolian culture through a compelling 2000-year-old tale that is interpreted through dance, puppetry, elaborate sets, and costumes that are influenced by traditional nomadic culture.
The production also includes an exquisite original score. The performance, which comprises a cast of 70 actors, has played in packed halls in Ulaanbaatar for the past year. The Story
The drama unfolds in Mongolia some 2000 years ago, at a turbulent time and a succession conflict that jeopardises the stability of the Empire. A diabolical conspiracy that has the potential to permanently shift the power dynamics is unfolding as the reigning Khan is struggling to safeguard his rule. The Mongol Khan contains all the elements of a traditional tragedy, including rivalry, adultery, mistaken identity, sacrifice, succession, and power struggles. The drama culminates in a titanic conflict over the future of the Hunnic Empire, with a lot at stake.
