The Story

Set in 2019, modern North Ireland, The 4th Country aims to showcase life and its tests from a funny point of view. It shows the intersection of the major events of North Ireland - the issue of abortion rights and Bloody Sunday campaigns. The show opens with a scene of panic where the civil servant’s Stormont Office has been under attack by the media and people after the death of Niamh, who was a woman relative of the Bloody Sunday victim. It shifts back in time and shows Niamh in a conversation with another woman discussing the hardships of a pregnant woman due to strict laws against abortion in North Ireland. Depicting some recent happenings, the actors tell real stories of real people in this thought-provoking play. The Northern Irish people face various struggles in their everyday life and these struggles have been voiced out in this interactive and refreshing show.
