Peacock Theatre Read more

The Peacock Theatre, tucked beneath the London School of Economics on Portugal Street, first opened in 1911 as the grand London Opera House, designed in Beaux-Arts style by Bertie Crewe. Rebuilt in 1960 as the Royalty Theatre in a modern venue, it became the Peacock in 1996 when Sadler’s Wells needed a West End home during its main theatre rebuild. Now shared with Sadler’s Wells, it stages contemporary dance, ballet, musicals, and pop events, combining modern flair with historic legacy. The venue retains quirky backstage history, like the old dolphin tank still beneath the stage.
