Jack and the Beanstalk in London's King’s Head Theatre is a fresh, irreverent take on the classic fairy tale, written by acclaimed panto playwright Andrew Pollard. Known for his sharp wit and playful storytelling, Pollard infuses this version with modern humour, local references, and a strong dose of festive chaos. At its heart, this is a story about standing up to greed and believing in your strength, even if you're armed with little more than a can of squirty cream and a loyal cow.
The production leans into classic pantomime traditions, audience participation, outrageous costumes, and fourth-wall-breaking comedy, while playfully updating the genre for contemporary London audiences. Expect cheeky nods to musical theatre, regional in-jokes, and a cast that throws itself into the fun with energy and charm. Designed for both children and adults, the show balances slapstick with smart writing, making it a lively addition to London’s seasonal theatre scene.
Set in modern-day Islington, Jack and the Beanstalk in London follows young milkman Jack as he embarks on a quest up a legendary beanstalk to rescue his beloved cow, Cowpatti Lupone, from a towering giant. Along the way, he uses squirty cream and fast puns to win over sceptical townsfolk and his mum. This heartwarming, comedic tale celebrates courage, community, and the bond between a boy and his cow, leaving you wondering whether Jack's bravery will be enough to save Angel Delight… and Islington itself.
