La Cage aux Folles is a musical with lyrics and music composed by Tony award-winning Jerry Herman (Hello, Dolly!, Mack & Mabel and Mame) and a book by Harvey Fierstein (Mrs. Doubtfire, Hairspray, Independence Day, Kinky Boots). It is based on the 1973 French musical of the same name by Jean Poiret. The musical explores the idea of family, love and acceptance. The original Broadway production musical ed 1,761 times over the course of more than four years, winning six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book. The revival will be directed by Olivier award-winning director, Timothy Sheader, who is best known for his work in Jesus Christ Superstar, Hello, Dolly!, To Kill A Mockingbird, Into The Woods and Crazy For You.
Storyline
The narrative centers on nightclub owner Georges and his attractive drag performer partner Albin, who are known for putting on the best shows in town. The performance of their lifetime begins when Laurent, Georges' son, reveals that he is engaged to the daughter of a right-wing politician whose goal is to put an end to the town's nightlife. Amidst the impending danger, Georges and Albin welcome their prospective in-laws for the benefit of their son while trying to hide their true selves.
