From TuckShop, the premier company for drag talent in the UK, comes a boisterous rendition of British folklore, titled Dick Whittington. The central theme of the play is the rags-to-riches story of its titular character. Gareth Joyner’s distinctive writing style and Christopher Clegg's artistic vision imbues the West End stage with the spirit of Soho this Christmas season.
Notable productions of Dick Whittington were staged at the Lyceum Theatre (1935), London Palladium (2017), and Royal National Theatre (2020). The drag panto is open for a limited run at the Phoenix Theatre from December 5, 2021, to January 9, 2022.
The plot follows the eponymous Dick Whittington and his furry friend, Tommy the Cat as they embark on an unforgettable journey from the streets of Soho all the way to Morocco. In his pursuit of wealth and love, Dick encounters eccentric characters like the evil Queen Rat (who hates cats!) and the Spirit of Soho. What's more, he constantly finds himself in bizarre situations. Dick Whittington is all decked up in outlandish costumes and ready to enchant you this Christmas season with its fast-paced panto that will tickle your funny bone to no end.
