Come From Away, winner of multiple Tony and Olivier Awards is a true story of the 38 planes that had to land unexpectedly in the town of Gander in Newfoundland. The characters are based on the actual residents of Gander that sheltered and fed the 7000 stranded passengers. The musical was conceptualized by Irene Sankoff and David Hein after their visit to the Newfoundland town on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. During their visit, the pair learned about the goodwill of its inhabitants and decided to interview the citizens of Gander. Using the interview, the husband and wife have crafted a compelling narrative that incorporates the real-life events in a gripping musical.
