The Ambassadors Theatre, which opened in 1913, was designed by architect W. G. R. Sprague. It was built to be a companion to St Martin's Theatre, allowing smaller productions to be staged in a more intimate setting.
Panthea, the first drama to be staged here, was only performed for 15 nights. Following that, Charles B. Cochran became the theatre's manager, and with the introduction of Paris' newest form of entertainment, the 'intimate' revue, he was able to turn the theatre's fortunes around.
