Here’s what we think: Review by Headout

Based on a quirky little 1930s French movie, The Baker’s Wife has often struggled to find its stride on the stage. The latest adaptation, however, has managed to strike the right notes with a perfect balance between nuanced sentimentality and whimsical humor. This is no easy feat with a story that revolves around romance, heartbreak, and scandal in a sleepy provincial town. Yet this production breathes new life into this tale and makes for an enchanting watch.

“This Stephen Schwartz curio comes to vivid life in a beautifully judged revival that’s equal parts goofy and yearning.”

“The Baker’s Wife has had a rocky road – it never made it to Broadway, and only had a short West End run in 1989 – but its whimsical charms are beautifully showcased in this intimate Menier production.”

“American director Gordon Greenberg gets the balance between lush romanticism and wry humour mostly right… overlaying it with heartbreak, sultry atmospherics and an unmistakable erotic charge.”

I saw ABBA first time in 1973 before they became famous in my hometown Lycksele. This show was excellent good in many ways. Especially the moves from in coordination between movies and the avatars. That made them more real.. A masterpiece from start to the end!! First time i cry in a show like this. Thd sound was better then in reality. Such a great job all of you made for all of us.. MAGIC. The booking experience was both quick and easy. One suggestion is that if you use the underground to Victoria which exit to use from the station as we chose the wrong one and it took some time to find the theatre.

Fabulous experience where the 1985 film is revised into a Grease-style musical! I went with my 11-year-old son and he loved it too. Don't hesitate to go and see this pure marvel on your own or with your family!
