The London Coliseum, designed by legendary architect Frank Matcham, opened its doors on Christmas Eve in 1904 as a “people’s palace of entertainment.” With its grand interiors, iconic revolving stage, and a seating capacity of over 2,300, it remains the largest theatre in London’s West End. Over the decades, it has transformed from a variety theatre to a World War II canteen, a cinema in the 1960s, and now the home of English National Opera. The Coliseum has hosted classics like Annie Get Your Gun, Kiss Me, Kate, and Around the World in 80 Days, cementing its place as a historic hub for spectacular productions.

I genuinely didn’t expect to leave this show feeling as emotional as I did. Kinky Boots is everything a West End musical should be — big, bold, funny, and surprisingly moving. The story of Charlie and Lola is one of those rare ones that manages to be completely feel-good without ever feeling shallow. The performances are incredible, the Cyndi Lauper songs are an absolute banger from start to finish, and the costumes? Stunning. The Angels in those red boots alone are worth the ticket price. But what really got me was the heart of it. “Not My Father’s Son” hit differently than I expected and I’m not ashamed to say I teared up. By the finale the whole audience was on their feet and honestly, same. If you haven’t seen it — go. You’ll leave the theatre walking taller. Guaranteed!
I somehow managed to book two seats in different rows and didn't realise until we were about to go into the theatre. Fortunately we were able to upgrade our seats directly with the box office, so were able to sit together. The show was fantastic - a proper feel good experience with a wholesome message about authenticity and acceptance. We loved it all - the songs were catchy, the costumes were superb and the performances were amazing!
The show is still amazing as it ever was. Appreciated so much the tribute to pride month! However, the redo/modernization of the stage and drag queen wardrobe was disappointing. The stage lights, background sounds, and the horrific stage truss frame needs to be addressed. Sure it's modern, but takes away from the actual show and story. The drag queens needed more umph and color in their wardrobe. Seemed very bleh.
This was the second time seeing Kinky Boots (the first time in Canada) but this performance was unforgettable! Lola played by Johannes Radebe on the night we attended was incredible; his performance actually gave me goose bumps. His voice and such passion in his dance moves made his performance. Unforfettable. The entire cast would receive a Grade A+. Would I go and see it again, absolutely.
From moment we entered the theatre to leaving, the atmosphere was amazing. I didn't get bored once. The cast were truly professional, they kept the audience captured, from start to finish. How they managed to transfer the film to stage was outstanding. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
