Why Watch Dick Whittington?
It's a splendid combination of British folklore and the Yuletide tradition of pantomime.
The show’s line-up includes Cheryl Hole, Kitty Scott Claus, Holly Stars, and Choriza May, who are all well-known from their appearances in RuPaul's Drag Race UK.
The play is loosely based on the story of the real-life Lord Mayor of London, Richard Whittington (c. 1354–1423)
If you love all things drag and your idea for a perfect evening includes quirky storytelling and riotous laughter, then this show is for you.
From TuckShop, the premier company for drag talent in the UK, comes a boisterous rendition of British folklore, titled Dick Whittington. The central theme of the play is the rags-to-riches story of its titular character. Gareth Joyner’s distinctive writing style and Christopher Clegg's artistic vision imbues the West End stage with the spirit of Soho this Christmas season.
Notable productions of Dick Whittington were staged at the Lyceum Theatre (1935), London Palladium (2017), and Royal National Theatre (2020). The drag panto is open for a limited run at the Phoenix Theatre from December 5, 2021, to January 9, 2022.
