Fortune Theatre is a West End theatre on Russell Street in the City of Westminster, close to Covent Garden. The Woman in Black has been performing there continuously since 1989. Laurence Cowen, an author, dramatist, and impresario, purchased the property that had previously been the historic Albion Tavern, a tavern favoured by Georgian and Victorian actors. It was the first theatre built in London following the First World War, constructed between 1922 and 1924, and seats 432 people.   • The Stalls are split into two sections by an off-centre aisle, resulting in one larger and one smaller block of seating. This section is relatively narrow and shallow.
  • Although support pillars are located at the ends of some aisles, they do not obstruct views but can make adjacent seats feel tight and uncomfortable.
  • With minimal rake in this section, the view may be obstructed by other audience members. Aisle seats are recommended for those needing extra legroom.
  • The rear seats in the Stalls are impacted by the Dress Circle overhang, and the stage height can also pose viewing challenges.

Dress Circle

  • 112 seats
  • Rows A-G

  • The Dress Circle is split into two unequal sections by an aisle running along the left side of the auditorium. A safety rail spans the length of the balcony, which can obstruct views for those seated in the first three rows.
  • The best seats are located in the center of the Dress Circle. While the section is well-raked, seats towards the ends of rows have restricted views.
  • The Upper Circle overhang begins at Row D, affecting the rear rows. However, this impact is minimal, and relatively clear views are available throughout the section.

Upper Circle

  • The Upper Circle, despite the intimate nature of the auditorium, can feel somewhat distant from the stage. Positioned behind the Dress Circle, it has restricted views due to safety rails at the ends of rows and across the front of the balcony.
  • While rows A-D contain restricted view seats, the Upper Circle generally offers better views than the Dress Circle.
  • The section's curvature can result in slight side views, but this does not significantly impact the overall experience. It's important to note that Row A is obstructed by the handrail, though this is not reflected in ticket pricing.

An alternative entrance via Crown Court includes 5 steps and a Stannah platform lift for wheelchair users. Box A is also accessible from this entrance. Row F at the back is accessible without steps, and there are two wheelchair spaces. Extra legroom is available in Box A.
  • Upper Circle: The Upper Circle is 40 steps up from the foyer, with handrails on both sides. This section is not recommended for those with limited mobility.
