Richard Stilgoe is a British songwriter and composer, who occasionally makes television appearances. His niche is humorous lyrics and songs. Stilgoe’s acting debut was the West End musical Jorrocks, after which he took to writing lyrics for shows and programmes such as Statutory Right of Entry to your Home, Hamburger Weekend, Used Notes, Stilgoe's Around and Maestro. Stilgoe was involved in penning the additional lyrics for Phantom of the Opera, and was the main lyricist for Starlight Express. Stilgoe is a two-time nominee for the Tony Awards, with honorary doctorate degrees from numerous universities. Owing to his unwavering charity work, Stilgoe was knighted by the Queen in 2012.
