Storyline
The Rhinegold (Das Rheingold) opera is set in the rich and mystical world of Norse mythology, with narrative foundations in the Nibelungenlied (also known as the Song of the Nibelungs), an early 13th-century Germanic text with a basis (most likely) in oral storytelling—there are strong associations between this and the Saga of the Völsungs, combined with stories from the Poetic Edda.
When the creation of a legendary Rhine ring proves to be more difficult than expected, the worlds of gods and men become even more complicated and volatile. The fate of the nine realms hangs in the balance as giants, dwarfs, nymphs, and deities squabble and battle each other. Watch the drama unfold at the London Coliseum by purchasing The Rhineland Opera tickets now!
