Storyline
The narrative of Akhnaten, also known as Amenhotep IV, is told in this captivating play. A powerful man of strong convictions, Akhnaten had a profound impact on the world. He was the first Pharaoh to abandon the worship of several gods in favour of only one: Aten, the Sun God. Philip Glass composed parts of the material for this enthralling opera from ancient hymns as well as prayers and inscriptions sung in the original Hebrew, Egyptian, and Akkadian languages.
