The show first premiered at the Aldwych Theatre in 2006 and went on to become the longest-running show in the theatre’s history after an astounding 5-year stint. It is famously written by Eleanor Bergstein, who wrote the original 1987 movie as well.

The stage version closely follows the timeless story of the film. Set against the backdrop of dance and a splash of youthful romance, the musical beautifully portrays a tale of passion and self-discovery through the deliverance of trust and perseverance.

The Story

We would be hard-pressed to name a more iconic summer romance story than that of Baby and Johnny’s passion-infused tale in Dirty Dancing. The musical follows a 17-year-old “Baby” Houseman on holiday with her family, when she discovers a freeing world of dance, entirely different from the kind she’s known before. Through her acquaintance with the resort’s dance instructor, Johnny Castle, Baby perseveres to understand herself, and the world outside her bubble of comfort. Although at its surface, Dirty Dancing can be described as a romantic tale peppered with steamy dance sequences against a winning soundtrack - the story is, at its core, a study of the perseverance of passion. Don't miss out on this timeless tale and book your Dirty Dancing musical London tickets now!
